Rejuvenate the Eyes with Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a relatively minor surgical procedure which can dramatically improve the signs of aging in the eyes. Over time, the upper eyelids begin to droop, creating a tired, sad or angry appearance and even obscuring vision. Bags develop along the lower eyelids, lending a weary and aged appearance. Blepharoplasty can correct these issues to restore a more youthful eye appearance.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids as needed. Dr. Robert A. Mounsey of Revesse of Toronto specializes in facial plastic surgery. He has extensive experience in eyelid surgery and will be happy to meet with you for a consultation to discuss your needs.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Dr. Mounsey may perform blepharoplasty in one of the Toronto area hospitals or private clinics which he is affiliated with. The surgery generally takes one to three hours to complete and may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. Incisions are hidden within the eyelid's natural creases. Through these incisions, Dr. Mounsey will remove excess tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids and then close the incisions.
The Blepharoplasty Recovery
Bandages may be applied to the eyelids after surgery and these generally remain in place for a few days. Swelling and bruising are normal and can be minimized by elevating the head and applying cold compresses. The bruising will fade within two to four weeks. Medication can help to alleviate discomfort as patients may experience a tight or sore feeling in the eyelids as well as a dry, itchy or burning sensation, tearing, light sensitivity, and/or blurred or double vision. These side effects should fade within about one week. The incisions can be easily concealed with makeup until they fade. Most patients are able to return to work within seven to ten days.
