Improve an Aging Chin & Neck with Chin Refinement
With age or due to heredity, many inviduals develop a double chin or "wattle" between the tip of the chin and neck. Fortunately, plastic surgery can help to correct this. At Revesse of Toronto, Dr. Robert Mounsey performs chin refinement surgery to reduce the appearance of sagging jowls and improve the contours of the neck and chin.
Chin refinement removes localized fat deposits beneath the chin using liposuction techniques. For patients with more advanced sagging in the chin and neck, the neck lift may be more appropriate as it also tightens the neck muscles.

The Chin Refinement Procedure
Dr. Mounsey may perform chin refinement in the office setting or in one of the hospitals or private clinics in the Toronto area which he is affiliated with. The procedure takes approximately one hour to complete is often performed with local anesthesia and sedation. During the surgery, Dr. Mounsey makes a small incision beneath the chin in a well-concealed location which allows for minimal visibility once healed. Through this incision, he will insert a narrow tube known as a cannula. The cannula is then manipulated which disrupts the fat cells so they may then be suctioned out.
The Chin Refinement Recovery
Recovery following chin refinement is generally minor. Some mild discomfort may result which can be alleviated with medication. As with any surgery, bruising and swelling may also occur but these side effects usually fade within seven to ten days. Most patients are able to return to work within five to seven days.
