The Nasal Reconstruction Procedure

Nasal reconstruction is a very individualized procedure and there are many techniques which may be used to reconstruct the nose. In general, the goal of nasal reconstruction is to recreate or approximate a "normal" nasal appearance. This is often performed with the use of flap tissue taken from the forehead or another area of the body. Flap tissue is comprised of skin and its underlying fat, blood vessels and sometimes muscle and is used to replace missing parts and reconstruct the nose. In some cases, bone grafts or cartilage grafts may be needed to improve the appearance or function of the nose. Grafts may be created from cartilage taken from the nasal septum, the ear or the rib.

General anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation may be used. Incisions will be placed as inconspicuously as possible to allow for the least visible scarring.
