Achieve Fuller, Plumper Lips with Lip Augmentation

416.438.2499

Full lips have long been associated with youthfulness and sensuality, and today's lip augmentation techniques allow for very natural results. At Revesse of Toronto, we offer several lip augmentation techniques which can provide both temporary and permanent results.

Lip augmentation, also referred to as lip enhancement, is able to create a fuller, plumper appearance to the lips. In many cases, plumping the lips will also reduce fine wrinkling around the mouth. Lip augmentation is a bit of an art form. It's important that the lips appear symmetric, that they match the person's face, and that there are no lumps or unevenness. In order to achieve a natural, harmonic result, special attention must be paid to certain elements like the cupid's bow and the philtral columns.

Lip Augmentation with Injectable Fillers

For patients looking to give their lips a temporary boost, injectable fillers can be a good option. These procedures are often performed in the office setting using a local anesthetic. Dr. Mounsey will use a very fine needle to inject the filler directly into the lips. The procedure can take as little as fifteen minutes to complete and involves minimal discomfort. As with any injection, some minor swelling or bruising may result, though most patients are able to return to their normal routine the same or next day. Full recovery takes just a few days.

Injectable fillers made of hyaluronic acid are often a good choice for lip augmentation. The duration of results will vary. In general these fillers used for lip augmentation last about three to six months before repeat injections are needed in order to maintain the effect. Fat injection may also be an option and results tend to last a bit longer. Temporary injectables are ideal for individuals who would like to "try out" fuller lips before undergoing a more permanent procedure.

Lips Augmentation with Implants

Those seeking a more long-term option may prefer lip implants. This is a surgical procedure which may be performed in the office setting or in one of the hospitals or private clinics in the Toronto area which Dr. Mounsey is affiliated with. Surgical lip augmentation may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. Very small incisions are typically made at the corners of the lips through which the implants are then inserted and the incisions are closed.

The recovery following surgical lip augmentation with implants is a bit more involved than after injectable fillers. Patients may experience more pain or discomfort which can be alleviated with medication. Swelling and bruising may also occur for up to a week. In general, patients are able to return to work and other normal activities within about one week, while full recovery may take up to two weeks.

Lip Augmentation Techniques

Lip augmentation is an excellent procedure for plumping the lips and creating a more youthful, sensual appearance. Lip augmentation can also restore volume to lips which have thinned with age and balance out asymmetries. A variety of fillers may be used. Hyaluronic acid fillers are ideal for lip augmentation as they replenish lost tissue to restore a fuller, plumper appearance. They are often a good choice for younger patients seeking lip augmentation and for older patients looking to reshape the lips due to volume loss.

Lips Rebalancing (Cheiloplasty/Lip Reduction)

Cheiloplasty or lip reduction is the technical term for surgery of the lip. It includes lip reduction, the process of surgically reducing the size of the lip or lips in order to reduce the appearance of abnormally large or protruding lips and the process of forming an artificial tip or part of the lips by using a piece of healthy tissue from some neighboring part. The procedure can also be performed to enhance the upper and lower lip for those who wish to make their lips permanently larger.

This procedure may be of benefit if a patient has had a prior Allergic reaction that has caused permanent residual swelling of the lips or asymmetry. The procedure may also be of benefit in cases where lip trauma has been sustained, for example a blow to the lip, causing a permanent asymmetry of the lips.
