Non-Invasive Skin Treatments From Dr. Mounsey of Toronto
At Revesse of Toronto, we offer a variety of non-invasive skin treatments designed to restore a smoother, more youthful glow and tighter appearance to the facial skin. If you are bothered by wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, age spots, freckles or other facial discoloration, you may benefit from a non-invasive skin treatment such as microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, laser skin tightening, or chemical peel.
Dr. Robert Mounsey often performs non-invasive skin treatments in the office setting. More extensive skin treatments or those combined with other surgical procedures may be performed in one of the hospitals or private clinics in Toronto which Dr. Mounsey is affiliated with.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion uses a handheld device which emits tiny crystals onto the skin's surface to buff away the dead skin cells and reveal the younger, healthier looking skin below. This procedure can repair sun damage and other age-related conditions, reducing fine lines, superficial wrinkles, crow's feet, age spots, acne scars and other blemishes for a fresher glow. The procedure typically takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete and does not require anesthesia. While the skin may feel somewhat hot or flushed initially, there are virtually no side effects and normal activities can be resumed immediately. Multiple sessions are usually needed to achieve the desired result along with periodic maintenance treatments.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing, sometimes referred to as a laser peel, is able to improve skin discoloration and enlarged pores. The laser also simulates the production of collagen. This treatment is most appropriate for fair-skinned individuals as those with olive, brown or black skin may have an increased risk of pigmentation changes. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the entire face or on specific areas and, as such, can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour to complete. It is commonly performed with local anesthesia and sedation. During the procedure, the activated laser is passed back and forth over the skin. Patients may experience some discomfort after their procedure which can be alleviated with medication. Mild swelling may also occur along with a red or pink appearance to the skin. Most patients are able to return to work in within two weeks time.
Laser Skin Tightening
Laser skin tightening is a procedure which can improve wrinkles and loose skin on the face and neck to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance. During the procedure, the laser energy heats the collagen beneath the skin's surface, producing a skin tightening effect. There is no downtime and results are immediate with continued tightening occurring over the next few months. Multiple treatments may be needed for optimal results.
Chemical Peel
Chemical peels come in varying strengths and may be used to improve the tone and texture of the skin. They essentially remove the damaged outer layers of skin to reveal a healthier, more youthful look. Your individual skin issues will determine the particular chemical that is used in your chemical peel. The mildest peels are comprised of alphahydroxy acid (AHA). Anesthesia is not required for AHA peels and there is little downtime or recovery, allowing patients to resume their normal activities right away. AHA peels may require periodic treatments for optimal results.
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels can be performed at varying strengths but are typically performed as a medium strength peel, while phenol peels are the strongest. These peels typically have an anesthetic mixed into the chemical solution, though patients undergoing a phenol peel may opt for sedation as well. Some tingling, swelling, redness and crusting may occur during the recovery. Patients can typically return to work within seven to ten days following a TCA peel and within two or more weeks after a phenol peel. TCA peels may require more than one treatment to achieve the desired results.
