Question : How common is revision surgery after ear surgery?
Answer : I think revision surgery after otoplasty is more common than people think. Many patients may not be happy with the exact appearance of their ear and want little slight changes after the procedure and for this they seek minor revision.
Question : How soon after my ear surgery will I be up and about?
Answer : Patients usually feel fine by the next day after their ear surgery. They’re able to move around and do a lot of activities around the house. I do tell patients to avoid strenuous exercise.
Question : Are headaches normal after otoplasty?
Answer : After an otoplasty procedure, there may be some mild local pain around the ear. However, headaches are not normal after an otoplasty and they do not usually occur. It’s important to see your doctor to rule out any other causes for headaches or any other complications.
Question : My son is four and I'd like to get otoplasty for him. How soon will he be able to return to preschool after the surgery?
Answer : I do my otoplasty around age 5. Most patients can return to school after one week. The procedure is generally very well tolerated without any excessive pain.
