Toronto’s Dr. Mounsey Performs Expert Revision Rhinoplasty
For patients who are dissatisfied with the result of a previous rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty may be an option. Revision rhinoplasty, or revision nose surgery, refers to secondary procedures performed to repair problems of an aesthetic and/or functional nature following a primary rhinoplasty surgery.
At Revesse of Toronto, Dr. Robert Mounsey specializes in facial plastic surgery. He has extensive experience in performing first-time rhinoplasty surgeries as well as revision rhinoplasties to correct the work of other surgeons. He takes special care to reconstruct the nose to restore a natural appearance.
The Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
If you are dissatisfied with the results of a previous rhinoplasty, Dr. Mounsey can reconstruct your nose to restore a natural look. Dr. Mounsey performs only facial plastic surgery procedures and is extremely experienced in performing first-time rhinoplasty surgeries as well as correcting the work of other surgeons. Because every revision rhinoplasty is different, the reconstruction process and recovery time are unique to each patient. To learn more about what your revision rhinoplasty would entail and view before-and-after photos of revision rhinoplasty cases similar to yours, please contact our practice.
Dr. Mounsey may perform the revision rhinoplasty surgery in Toronto area hospitals or private clinics that he is affiliated with. It's important to note that every revision rhinoplasty is different and, as such, the reconstruction process and recovery time will be unique to each patient. In general, however, the surgery usually takes two or more hours to complete and may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. As with primary rhinoplasty, there are two main approaches which may be used: open or closed. With closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils. With open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the skin which separates the nostrils, known as the columella. For complicated revision procedures, open rhinoplasty may be preferred as it allows for easier access to and manipulation of the nasal tissue and bone. Working through the incisions, Dr. Mounsey may reposition existing cartilage or replace missing structures in order to achieve the desired result.
More About Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
Once again, the recovery process following revision rhinoplasty will vary for each individual patient. In general, however, many patients experience less bruising, swelling and pain than after the primary rhinoplasty procedure. Bruising may last for up to ten days while noticeable swelling may last for up to one month or more. Most patients find that they can return to work within about one week.
