Question : I am allergic to milk. I understand some injectable fillers like Artefill and Zyderm are derived from cow sources. Are there any fillers I should avoid because of my allergy?
Answer : It is very important to consider allergies in the use of fillers. I like to take note of all of my patients’ allergies. Once these are noted, depending on the filler that you choose, the filler itself may have compounds that one is allergic to, both the main compound in the filler and also some other substances which are added to the filler which may help with the flow or viscosity of the filler or may also help with preserving the filler. If you have an allergy to any of these minor things, they can also be a problem. So, it’s very important not to just look at the filler compound but also all the substances which are used in the filler. If you have an allergy it’s best to switch this obviously as the filler would not be appropriate for you.
