Question : Are there ever things that can’t be fixed with revision rhinoplasty? I don’t know what I specifically don’t like about my nose since my nose job, it just looks all around awful.
Answer : Revision rhinoplasty cannot fix everything. Surgery is not a perfect science. The goal of surgery is to improve things but you cannot make things perfect. Some patients come to my office and they want their nose moved a millimeter left or right. I say to them that this cannot be done by any surgeon with certainty. The other thing is that in some noses if the skin’s soft tissue envelope, which is the tissues that cover the underlying structure of the nose, are severely damaged, it may not be possible to improve the nose significantly. Also, if a large amount of tissue is torn, new tissue may need to be added to the nose and the result may not be perfect. I also tell patients that they have to consider on their own whether or not the time, expense and effort of a revision procedure is really going to be justified for the concern that they have.
