Question : Are there limitations to the changes that can be made with rhinoplasty?
Answer : There are limitations to the changes that can be made with rhinoplasty. Fortunately, with modern techniques most patients can have improvement in their appearance. There are two groups of patients which I’m very cautious to explain exactly what can be achieved. There are some patients who desire very, very minor change. The change is so minor that no surgeon can reliably state that this can be done because the way the tissues heal will lead to slight variability. The other group of patients includes those who bring in a magazine with a picture of a person’s nose that looks completely different than their nose. In these cases, I tell them that although rhinoplasty can achieve very good results, most patients cannot create a nose which is completely unrelated to their own.
