Question: I have a fairly large nose which I’m really not that bothered by. It’s big and it’s long, but again I’m okay with that. What I don’t like are my nostrils. These are too large and seem very noticeable. Can they be fixed or would smaller nostrils look strange on my large nose?
Answer: In rhinoplasty, balance, harmony, and proportion are the most important things. The nose must be balanced with the rest of the other structures of the face. There must also be some harmony so the shape of the nose must also look well with the rest of the structures. And proportion is important so that the relation between any one structure of the nose must be proportionate in relation to the other structures of the nose. This last thing, proportion, is the most important related to your question. If your nose is very, very large and your nostrils are large and they are proportionate, it’s best not to change these. However, if the nostrils are actually large even in relation to your large nose, then making them smaller would make some sense.
