Question: What are some common reasons for revision rhinoplasty?
Answer: Revision rhinoplasty, or secondary rhinoplasty, is done for two main reasons. The first reason is unfavorable aesthetic result. The second reason is unfavorable function result which means that the patient may have trouble breathing after the surgery. The unaesthetic result can occur due to scarring, infection or incorrect diagnose and treatment intraoperatively. After rhinoplasty patients may have breathing that has worsened or breathing has not been adequately corrected. It is important for a surgeon to make sure that they have a good understanding of the anatomy and the functional components of the nose to ensure that the change made in the nostrils improves the appearance and breathing is not compromised and, if indicated, breathing is improved if possible.
