Question: I have had some persistent crusting in my nose since my rhinoplasty surgery. I’m wondering why this is occurring, how it can be improved and if it needs revision rhinoplasty.
Answer: After surgery, it’s not uncommon to have some crusting in the nose. This may be due to swelling of the nose internally and the airflow not moving with the normal circulation. There also may be dried blood in the nose which may persist after the surgery. In general, I recommend Vaseline for the nose and saline or a plain water solution to clean the nose and over time this should improve. Rarely, would revision rhinoplasty be needed for this procedure as it should just resolve.
