Question : I’m interested in getting a facelift and I’ve been reading through online forums to do research. I’ve been really surprised by how many people find the recovery to be very, very difficult and lengthy, much more so than they’d expected. This seems especially true for a lot of the mini procedures that are hyped these days. Is this just a case of people recovering at different rates or is healing really more involved?
Answer : People do heal at different rates. Most patients find their recovery not too bad, but some patients do say that their recovery can be quite severe. It also depends on the technique of the facelift and the dissection. There are some techniques which involve dissection right to the bones of the face and this can result in swelling and pain for weeks. There are techniques which involve less dissection which have less swelling. Sometimes patients who undergo the mini procedures think that it’s going to be a very minor procedure and that they’re going to be back to normal in a matter of hours. However, sometimes with these mini procedures, there is a fair amount of dissection and they can take time to heal.
