Question : How is lip reduction done? Are you actually surgically removing a portion of the lip?
Answer : Lip reduction, or reduction cheiloplasty, is done by making an incision in the inner border of the lip or at the mucosa and then removing a strip of this tissue and sewing this area back into place. This is done so that the incision is concealed. Common indications for reduction cheiloplasty are thickened lips which are caused by allergic reaction or reaction to a drug or previous trauma through different sports which cause the lips to swell and sometimes become asymmetrical. It is generally a well-tolerated procedure with good results.
