Question: How long is the recovery time for a facelift? What sort of pain killers will be given after the surgery?
Answer: After the first week, most people feel pretty good. Narcotic analgesics, as long as they are not contraindicated, are given to the patient and generally may be used for the first 24 to 48 hours. Some patients, surprisingly, have very little pain. Pain threshold varies with patients and pain medicine may be extended as needed. The strength of the pain medicine is titrated to control the patient’s pain. The goal is a pain-free patient. There is no consideration given to what type of medicine is given, narcotic or non-narcotic analgesic is given. The end point of the goal is to make sure the patient is pain free, and this is done using a variety of pain medications if needed.
