Question: I’m interested in lip augmentation and recently heard of something called Artecoll. What is this?
Answer: Artecoll is polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). They are in microspheres. The solution also contains collagen and there is also some lidocaine in this injection so it is less painful. This is a longer lasting subdermal filler and it is effective for a number of uses in patients. I always make sure that patients understand that with longer-lasting fillers you have to be very sure that this is exactly what you want because it’s not easy to change. Also, if you use a less long-lasting filler, if you don’t like it, after a moderate amount of time it will go away.
