Question: I’ve heard that with an attractive set of lips, the upper lip is naturally a bit larger than the lower lip. What is the ideal ratio?
Answer: In the past, we spent a lot of time using ratios for lips and other facial features. In the modern, multi-cultural society in which we live, we have now realized that many of the early ratios and ideas that were developed were not really applicable for other ethnicities. Also, in a modern society, many of the patients, whether Caucasian, Asian, African American, African, Canadian, Hispanic, etc., may have many different elements of the genetics which are going to come into play with their appearance. The best thing to do is to look at the lips and see what has the most natural aesthetic appearance is using Canfield Medical Imaging. Preoperative evaluation can also help with this so that the patient can determine what looks best for them before having the procedure.
