Question : I’ve heard that many injectable fillers last up to a year or longer. I have frown lines and forehead creases which I’ve been considering getting Botox for, but I’m wondering if fillers could be used instead because the duration is longer.
Answer : Botox is a neuromodulator. It helps to weaken the pull of the muscle underneath to smooth out the lines. Injectable fillers work in a different method. They actually mechanically fill the holes to smooth them out. Some people theoretically like the idea of using a filler to just fill the hole. Other patients think that Botox is simple and that they can have it done on a regular basis and it creates a nice smoothing effect. Sometimes even a combination of both may work. In some areas, though, and depending on the type of line, some fillers may not be the best choice. Some of these are very deep lines. In other cases, you may need to have a filler and just using Botox may not work. This is why it’s very important to examine the facelift and understand which will work best.
