Question: I am 19 years old and would like to have an otoplasty. Would I be given local anesthesia or just sedation? Answer: Otoplasty can be done with local anesthesia and some sedation in older patients. Patients may also opt for a general anesthetic if they don’t like the idea of being awake during the procedure. In the younger patients, such as children, I prefer general anesthetic since they cannot remain calm even with sedation.
