Question: When removing a hump or a bump on the nose, what are the instances when it would be filed down versus broken?
Answer: The hump may be caused by bone or cartilage. If the hump is caused by bone it is filed down. If the hump is caused by cartilage it is cut. If the hump requires a great deal of filing or removal of bone which can also be done with a sharp, tiny instrument to cut the bone, this cut may be sufficient and there may be no need to make a break in the nose. The nose may also be broken if the nose is already straight and therefore there is no need to change the shape of the nose or to narrow the nose.
