Question : Would a revision rhinoplasty procedure be performed through the same incision on the columella as my original procedure? Would this keep the scarring to a minimum or would it make my existing scar worse?
Answer : Depending on the nature of the revision, if an open approach is needed, generally the revision rhinoplasty is done on the columella. There are various approaches that can be taken. The old scar can be excised in order to create a new scar which is as fine as possible depending on how the original scar healed. The old incision can be used. Occasionally, the scar may be excised and a different incision used. It really depends on what needs to be done. In some cases, revision rhinoplasty can also be done with a closed approach which would require no revision incision on the columella.
