Question : I am curious about injectable fillers, mainly because I would love the treatments! What types of fillers are there? Are different fillers used for different areas of the face?
Answer : There are more and more fillers coming on the market very quickly. Fillers can really be divided based on many different criteria. One criterion is the length of how long the filler lasts. Some fillers are short acting, some are long acting, and some are permanent. Another criterion is whether or not the filler is made of synthetic materials or made of human materials or whether it’s made of biogenetically engineered materials. Another way to qualify the different types of fillers are the lines that they’re used to fill. Some fillers are very good for superficial lines such as those around the mouth, some fillers are very good for filling deeper folds such as the nasolabial folds, and some fillers are good for volume such as filling hollows in the cheekbone area. You’ve noticed that I have not mentioned the names of the fillers. There are so many different types and classes of fillers now that listing them would be exhaustive, and also patients tend to have the name of one filler and think that that’s the best filler based on maybe on advertising, although in reality choosing the best filler really depends on what you’re going to use the filler for. Right now, the hyaluronic acid fillers are popular and work with good results.
