Question : I’m African American. I saw one doctor who said that my dorsum is low and that he’d use a silastic implant to fix it. Is that a good plan?
Answer : I frequently deal with patients who need some elevation of their dorsum. I favor all natural tissues in my practice. The risk of synthetic materials in the nose is that because the area moves regularly, these areas can become red, cause chronic pain and in some cases the implant can poke through the nose. For these reasons, I like to use natural tissue in my reconstruction.
