Question: I am a 52-year-old woman who is interested in getting facelift. I’m wondering if a facelift will get rid of the smoker’s lines I have around my mouth.
Answer: In general, the facelift will do very little for the small fine lines around your mouth. These fine lines around your mouth may be best managed with a skin resurfacing such as the laser or with some injectable techniques. Chemical peels are also used. It seems the laser works very well, however it can cause some permanent hypopigmentation or whitening of the skin which the patient may not find acceptable and may need to use makeup to cover.
