Question: I’ve heard ear surgery is often performed on children. I wish I had it as a kid because I was always teased and called “dumbo.” I’m an adult now and my ears still bother me. Is it possible to have surgery now?
Answer: Otoplasty in Toronto or reshaping of the ear is quite commonly performed in children. One advantages of having the procedure done on children, at least in Canada, is that this procedure is covered under provincial plans. For example, in Ontario, the OHIP covers the cost of this procedure for the child so no cost is incurred. However, as an adult this surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure and a fee would be charged. This surgery is quite commonly performed on adults. The results are very good and many adults are extremely happy to have this performed. It is best to consult with an experienced facial plastic surgeon to determine what your aesthetic goals are and how you can best achieve them with the surgery.
