Question: I would like both my lower and upper lip enlarged and made more shapely. How do you suggest I go about doing this? Could I try injectables first before I try surgery? My goal is full lips all of the time.
Answer: Having more shapely upper and lower lips is a very common goal and it is very important to have your lips analyzed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon. Quite often the patient desires more shapely lips, but just injecting a material in the lip without a good understanding of the anatomical sub units of the lip may lead to a thicker lip but not a more shapely lip. Therefore, use of materials to increase the shape of the lip may lead to a more shapely lip without unnecessarily enlarging the lip. Injectable fillers are used with quite good results in the lip and also have the advantage of dissolving on their own, being simple and being very cost effective. Permanent surgery may change the shape of your lip, however if you do not like the shape of your lip it may be more difficult to restore the lip back to the shape that you want. The best approach to upper and lower lip enhancement is a careful and detailed examination of the lips followed by consultation with an experienced facial plastic surgeon to review all the possible options and choose the option which most allows you to achieve all of your goals.
