Question: If you have an open rhinoplasty procedure and then get another procedure in the future that is also open, how does this affect the scar? Do multiple open procedures make the scar worse?
Answer: Open rhinoplasty refers to a surgical technique for reshaping the nose in which is an incision is made on the columella. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon should be able to manage the scar from the first procedure with the goal of making sure that the final scar is very inconspicuous. The more procedures done on the nose, the more difficult it may be to obtain the best possible scar and this will also make surgical dissection more difficult. However, in experienced hands, even after previous open rhinoplasty, the scar may be improved from the initial scar.
