Question: How is a pug type nose corrected?
Answer: Many people complain that their nose has a pug-like appearance. This may be due to either a true short appearance of the nose or over rotation of the tip where the tip of the nose is turned up. This appearance can be improved. However, this is difficult to correct. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon will give the person the best chance of a successful aesthetic outcome. All techniques involve rotating the nose to remove the pug nose appearance to decrease the show of the nostrils. There are also other techniques where changes to the top of the volar dorsum can be done to decrease the appearance and change the balance of the nose to make this type of pug nose appearance less noticeable. It is also important to note that in taller patients it is very important to avoid surgical techniques which will result to this pug nose appearance. For many patients, there will be over intensive show of the nostril and this will be quite an unaesthetic appearance.
