What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is the latest, cosmetic injectable and is administered to patients’ faces to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles. It is comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is found in the skin and muscles of mammals.
The US FDA approved Juvederm® in 2006 for the removal of nasolabial folds also known as “smile lines.” It can also be used for lip augmentation and to fill in unsightly scars. Because fillers are absorbed by the body, they do not last permanently. Typically, the treatment must be redone every six to nine months.
Safety of Juvederm
The US FDA performed clinical trials in various medical centers to evlauate Juvéderm®. Nearly 150 subjects were monitored over the course of approximately six months. Juvederm was compared to Zyplast by injecting one into either “smile line”. Juvéderm® was determined to be more effective. Over 80% chose Juvéderm® as the better option for them.
