Sculptra™ is a type of injectable facial filler comprised of polylactic acid (PLLA), a safe, synthetic material. Sculptra was developed to correct the signs of facial fat loss, such as sunken cheeks, skin indentations, and hollowness around the eyes and associated dark circles. Once injected, Sculptra gradually thickens the skin, making it appear fuller, smoother and more even in tone.
If you have experienced diminished facial fat that makes you appear older than you, Sculptra™ may be an ideal solution for you. It can restore facial volume to provide a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
Treatment with Sculptra
At Pure Facial Aesthetics of Toronto, Dr. Robert Mounsey performs Sculptra treatments in the office setting. While there is little discomfort, a local or topical anesthetic may be administered if desired. Dr. Mounsey will then inject the Sculptra in small amounts beneath the skin using a very fine needle. The treatment is quick, taking just fifteen to forty minutes depending on the number of treatment areas.
Sculptra involves little downtime or recovery and most patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine. Some minor swelling, redness or bruising may occur at the injection site, but these side effects typically clear up within a few hours to a few days. You will be advised to massage the treatment area several times a day for the first few days. Results occur gradually over time and may last for up to two years. Some patients require more than one treatment session to achieve their desired result.
